The United Nations Mission in South Sudan [UNMISS] has condemned an attack on its convoy on Monday morning by unknown gunmen in the Unity region.
A statement issued by the UNMISS on Tuesday said the convoy of the UN peacekeepers and civilians came under attack about 20kms North of Leer town.

“The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) strongly condemns an armed attack that directly targeted its peacekeepers in the country’s Unity region, on the morning of 4 June 2018,” read part of the statement.

The UN team was on a short patrol from the Mission’s Leer Temporary Operations Base to Thaker, in Mayendit County.

However, authorities said no one was injured in the incident and no damage to the vehicles had been reported. The UNMISS team said Leer is facing heightened insecurity in recent weeks, forcing people to flee.
