Willy Mutabarura the chairperson Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) in Sheema district has urged headteachers to stop underrating schools where they are deployed.
Mutabarura said that most headteachers especially those who have ever worked in big schools, when deployed in upcoming schools, they often take them for granted and work without seriousness.
He advised them to take all schools as business where they should invest a lot and wait for the profits in terms of good performance after a while.
“You can use your skills to make that school the best. All teachers were taught to teach others, hence making dull students bright and bright ones brighter. Therefore, those who want to teach only bright children are not profession teachers.” Mutabarura said.
Mutabarura also warned teachers who engage in sex with students and pupils they teach to stop the habit immediately, saying that government increased their salary to only teach children productive skills, not immorality.
Osmas Mukundane, a primary seven class teacher at Ruhigana primary school in Bugongi town council, said that “Some parents have greatly concentrated on attacking teachers who discipline their children during school time and forget to fulfill their responsibilities as parents like paying school dues and scholastic materials.”
