Kampala: Schools have five weeks to register candidates for their final examinations, according to Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

The UNEB Spokesperson, Janipher Kalule, said the schools have five weeks from the resumption of candidate classes on October 15, 2020, to register the candidates to enable the exams body to organize the exercise.

She further revealed that UNEB had already sent schools the E-registration software to kick start the exercise.

However, the Ministry of Education and Sports has warned schools across the country to desist from hiking UNEB fees.

The director of basic and secondary education, Hajj. Ismail Mulindwa revealed that they had received reports that private schools are illegally charging exorbitant UNEB fees to finalists, adding that the ministry was ready to take serious actions against such schools and headteachers, who extort from parents.

“Some selfish directors have become a burden to the parents by charging illegal UNEB fees. If we get any school hiking UNEB fees, we will withdraw the license. If it is a Government school, the headteachers will be held accountable. Such people are frustrating government efforts of making education unaffordable, Mulindwa said.
