UOC Elections: Donald Rukare Replaces Blick As New President

Donald Rukare will replace William Blick as the new Uganda Olympic Committee President after being nominated unopposed ahead of the 2021 elections scheduled for February 27th.

Sim Katende, appointed as the Returning officer for the upcoming UOC elections, confirmed the final list of candidates.

For the position of President, only one candidate had the credentials to run and that is Dr. Donald Rukare so he will stand unopposed,” Said Katende.

Rukare is currently the Chairman of National Council of Sports and is also the General Secretary at UOC.

He has previously served as the President of Uganda Swimming Association President.

Rukare will now replace outgoing President Blick who has been in office since 2012. Blick replaced Roger Ddungu.

Besides Rukare, other unopposed candidates for particular positions include Dunstan Nsubuga (1st Vice), Moses Mwase (2nd Vice), Patience Ayikoru (Secretary-General), Lydia Dhamuzungu (Assistant Secretary), Sadik Nasiwu (Treasury), Anne Mungoma (Board Member) and Joanne Adongo (Board Member).

The UOC acts as an agent of the International Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Federation in Uganda to uphold and promote Olympic and Commonwealth ideals to its affiliates and stakeholders by providing support, guiding policy and delivering programmes through its organs and structures.

It is said that Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi wanted to contest for the UOC Presidency but ousted by the stringent constitution.
