It was smiles all over Malaba Youth Development Association (MYDA) as they cruised past Kyetume 1-0 in the Star-Times Uganda Premier League away from home.

This was the first-ever MYDA’s win in the Uganda Premier League following the Tororo-based club’s promotion to the top flight this season from the big league.

Paul Musamali is the hero who scored for flying eagles in the 70th minute to lead them to their first-ever victory in the final game of the first round at FUFA technical center, Njeru.

Earlier, with only ten minutes played, MYDA’s Derrick Basoga suffered a nasty injury and was subbed off for Amos Kirya.

The flying eagles’ first chance fell on Eric Mutebi who made an effort on the goal in the 29th minute following Mark Bassi’s brilliant pass in the area but Kyetume’s goalkeeper stood firm to make a wonderful save to deny MYDA its first.

Moments later, substitute Kirya dribbled past Kyetume defender but he was brought down for a free-kick which yields nothing.

Twenty-five minutes into the second half, Musamali slotted home to put the visitors in the lead, a goal that later become the difference between the two sides.

MYDA now is in 15th place with six points from 15 matches played so far having secured three draws in the past before their historical first win.

Elsewhere, Kitara lost 2-1 to Busoga United at the FUFA Technical center Njeru still. Busoga United came from a goal down to take all three points from the Hoima based side.

Nathan Oloro had put Kitara in the lead with just 4 minutes played but Shaka Ssozi’s brace scored in the 25th and 50th minutes respectively condemned the visitors to a 2-1 loss.

The second round is set to kick off on 2nd April 2021.
