UPL: Vipers Edge 10-Man Villa 3-0 To Reclaim The Top Seat

The defending champions Vipers overcame sports club Villa 3-0 in the Star-Times Uganda Premier League on Wednesday at St Mary’s Kitende.

Daniel Serunkuuma slotted home the opener in the 8th minute with a brilliant effort before danger man Yunus Ssentamu doubled the lead for the Venoms thanks to Karim Watambala’s perfect assist.

Fred Kajoba’s boys kept spitting Venom on the Joggos, pressing hard for another goal and kept the tempo of the game-high till the 40th minute when Villa regained some ball possession.

Ssentamu and Watambala got some half chances they couldn’t convert to stretch the lead. Paul Willa was shown a yellow card in the 43rd minute for a dangerous tackle on Villa’s Derrick Ndahiro.

The first half ended with the Venoms in the lead 2-0 and with total control of the game.

Just five minutes into the second half, Ibrahim Orit could have made it 3-0 for Vipers with Disan Galiwango’s fine cross but instead, he headed the ball wide.

Kajoba introduced Paul Mucurezi and Cesar Manzoki for Dan Serunkuuma and David Bagoole in the 58th minute before he made another double substitution subbing on Allan Kayiwa and Jamil Kaliisa with 18 minutes left to play.

With SC Villa trying to come back into the game, Joseph Nsubuga was shown a second yellow card and sent off in the 78th minute to reduce the Joggos to 10-man and two minutes later, Villa netted the third to seal the win.

Elsewhere, the Hoima based side Kitara stunned Wakiso Giants 3-2 at Kavumba Recreation Grounds credit to Peter Lomoro’s opener in the 32nd minute. Later, Rahmat Ssenfuka missed from the spot a chance that would have put the purple sharks to level before Viane Sekajugo equalized from close range just a minute into the second half.

Edison Agondeze netted the second for Kitara in the 53rd minute to make it 2-1 before he found his second and winner for Kitara with five minutes on the clock.

The purple sharks continued attacking till Viane Sekajugo slotted home his second of the game to end the score 3-2 at full time in favor of Kitara.

And finally, BUL overcame Bright Stars 2-0 with goals from Deogracious Okok 4th and Robert Mukongotya 9th minute at Kavumba Recreation Center.
