UPL: Vipers Nets Police Corps, Secures Top Seat Again

It was a hard-fought victory for Vipers SC at St Mary’s Kitende in the Star-Times Uganda Premier League on Friday 19th February 2021 that ended 3-2 against Police FC, an encounter that sent the Venoms to the top again.

The Venoms took a lead through Ibrahim Orit in the 21st minute but Erick Ssenjobe levelled quickly for the corps just two minutes later before Brian Muluuli doubled the lead for the visitors in the 36th minute.

Yunus Ssentamu had missed a golden opportunity to put Vipers in the lead in the 32nd minute with the ball fumbling in his legs.

The spirits of Kitende went at play in the 41st minute when Police Goalkeeper Derrick Ochan was sent off for allegedly holding the ball outside the box. This was the twist of the game though the corps were in the lead 2-1 at halftime.

Paul Mucurezi was introduced at the start of the second half replacing David Bagoole and three minutes later, he set up a brilliant cross that fell on the head of Orit who clinically headed home for the equaliser to make it 2-2.

Shaban Muhammad was subbed off for Cesar Manzoki in the 73rd minute and it took him only three minutes to find the back of the net, a goal that handed 3points to the Venoms and a top of the Star-Times Uganda Premier League table again.

Fred Kajoba’s boys displayed a superb and formidable fight to deny a ten-man Police FC a win and also pulling them down from the top. Winger Ibrahim Orit was given the man of the match award for a solid performance.

Police’s losing streak at St Mary’s Kitende continues having lost all the five last games played so far.

Elsewhere, Bright Stars beat UPDF 3-0 thanks to goals from Samuel Ssekamatte, Sulaiman Ssebbunza and Jamie K while Onduparaka overcame Kyetume 3-1 at the green light stadium with a brace from Kyeline Meddie and the other one scored by Oketch Emma. Meanwhile, Kirabira netted for the visitors and finally Mbarara City and Busoga United ended in a goalless stalemate at Kakyeka stadium.
