Adelegation of leaders from the US arrived in Kenya on Wednesday night for an array of activities including meeting with outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta, President-elect William Ruto and ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

The team, led by US Senator Chris Coons who is on an ongoing five-country tour of Africa, was received by US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

They are expected to hold talks with Kenyan leaders to deliberate on shared goals between the Joe Biden-led nation and Nairobi.

“The delegation is also scheduled to meet with President Kenyatta, William Ruto and Raila Odinga to discuss goals on health, security, and economic prosperity,” Whitman tweeted on Wednesday.

Coons and his entourage are also expected to have sit-downs with conservationists, health providers, and organizations working to empower girls in Kenya.

Despite the US having yet to congratulate President-elect Ruto on his win at the ballot, the superpower has maintained that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) conducted the electoral process in a free, fair and transparent manner.

We applaud the efforts of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, security forces, and all electoral institutions to organize a peaceful and orderly voting and counting process,” the US Embassy said in a statement on Monday.

“This is an important milestone in the electoral process. Going forward, we urge all parties to work together to peacefully resolve any remaining concerns about this election through existing dispute resolution mechanisms.”

The US likewise urged Kenyans to continue maintaining peace during this period as persons who had reservations about the results of the poll prepare to move to court to contest the election outcome.
