Authorities have launched a full investigation after a man died while attempting to vandalise a high-voltage electricity transmission tower in Nakapinyi Village, Kasenge Parish, Nama Subcounty.

The incident, which reportedly occurred during the night of 18–19 November 2025, involved a group of unidentified individuals who targeted a transmission tower connected to the Namawojolo power sub-station. According to preliminary reports, one of the vandals became trapped within the angle bars of the tower while cutting through its structure and died instantly. His body, dressed in a blue overall, was found hanging on the tower early the following morning.

The attempted vandalism also caused structural damage to a second tower located approximately half a kilometre from the main incident site.

Police in Mukono District have since registered a case and opened formal investigations. A joint team comprising officers from the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) and the Uganda Police Force visited the scene for examination. Officials documented the site, obtained witness statements from area residents, and captured photographic evidence. Task teams are now pursuing leads to identify the remaining suspects believed to have fled the scene.

Preliminary findings suggest that the deceased was part of a coordinated effort to fell the high-voltage tower by cutting through its support structure, a dangerous act that resulted in his fatal entrapment.

Authorities are working to safely retrieve the body for post-mortem examination and proper identification. Police say establishing the motive behind the attempted vandalism and bringing all involved individuals to justice remains a priority.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity around critical infrastructure as investigations continue.
