The Venezuelan government has accused the United States of carrying out what it described as a “grave military aggression” against its territory, alleging attacks on civilian and military locations in the capital Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela said the alleged actions by the US government constitute a “flagrant violation” of the United Nations Charter, particularly provisions that uphold state sovereignty, legal equality, and the prohibition of the use of force .

The government warned that the alleged attacks pose a serious threat to international peace and stability, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, and endanger the lives of millions of people. It accused Washington of seeking to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, particularly oil and minerals, and of attempting to force political change through military means .

Venezuela said it would resist what it termed a “colonial war” aimed at undermining its political independence, insisting that similar efforts in the past had failed. The statement invoked the country’s long history of resistance to foreign intervention, drawing parallels with earlier confrontations with global powers .

The government called on citizens to take to the streets in protest and urged social and political forces to activate nationwide mobilization plans. It said the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, together with police and civilian groups, had been deployed to guarantee sovereignty and internal peace .

Diplomatically, Venezuela announced it would file formal complaints with the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and the Non-Aligned Movement, seeking international condemnation and accountability for the alleged actions by the United States .

President Nicolás Maduro has ordered the activation of all national defense plans and signed a decree declaring a state of “external commotion” across the country. The measure, according to the government, is intended to protect the population, ensure the functioning of state institutions, and prepare for armed defense if necessary .

The decree also mandates the immediate deployment of the Command for the Comprehensive Defense of the Nation and related defense organs in all states and municipalities. Venezuela said it reserves the right to exercise legitimate self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and appealed to regional and global actors to show solidarity against what it called imperial aggression .
