Victoria University Announces Half Bursary To Enable Students Study Despite COVID-19 Challenges

Kampala: The management of Victoria University has announced that it has rolled out an opportunity to enable students from Uganda, East Africa and other countries undertake their studies, without being impeded by the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It should be noted that following the outbreak of COVID-19, President Yoweri Museveni announced the closures of all universities, schools and other institutions of learning, so as to prevent the spread of the virus.

However, students at Victoria University were not adversely affected by the lockdown, because many of them are currently attending their lectures through E-Learning and Zoom Study classes.

But as a way of encouraging more students to enroll and help parents to cope up with tuition amidst the COVID-19 crisis, the management of Victoria University has announced a half bursary on tuition, such that students do not have to worry much about university dues, but instead focus on their studies.

This was announced on Monday August 3, 2020, by proprietor of Victoria University Rajiv Ruparelia, who revealed that all Ugandans and everyone all over the world has a right to study despite the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 to the education system.

Shortly after the Scientific function, Rajiv tweeted thus; “Today, Victoria University announces the #VUHalfPriceFullValue initiative to support students especially in this trying time. The initiative is to keep education at the core of nurturing talents and skill.”

He added that; “Now more than ever, Victoria University is here to keep dreams alive.”

This comes at a time when very many students and parents are finding it a difficult time when it comes to raising tuition and other financial demands by universities,  which include charges for online lessons.

From 2011 until late 2012, VUU was affiliated with the University of Buckingham (UB) in the United Kingdom, which awarded the majority of degrees offered.

In September 2013, VUU was purchased by tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia, ranked the wealthiest individual in East Africa, by Forbes magazine in 2012. The University then became a member of the Ruparelia Group, and its campus relocated to Eagen Mansions, at 1-13 Jinja Road, in Kampala’s central business district, which was renamed “Victoria Towers”.
