Officials from the Ministry of Health have cautioned Ugandans to be alert when reading information about Coronavirus (COVID-19), because there are several people spreading false news about the pandemic.

The warning came a few hours after a fake account created by yet to be identified people who purport to work for the Ministry of Health, reported on Sunday that the number of COVID-19 cases in Uganda had risen to 332 after 105 alleged new cases being recorded among truck drivers.

A tweet from the Ministry of Health about the fake COVID-19 news

To counter the said fake news, the MoH through their official tweeter handle, vehemently refuted the allegations and trashed reports of COVID-19 cases in Uganda shooting to 332.

The Ministry of Health tweeted thus; “@MinofHealthUG has noted fake results being communicated by unknown persons.

This is to inform the public that MoH did not release results yesterday(Sunday). Following the Presidential directive of only allowing in truck drivers who test negative, samples had to be sorted appropriately.”

It added that “Ugandan truck drivers who test positive will be evacuated directly to hospitals.

Samples had to be divided between UVRI and @UNHLS1 for quick turn around time. Testing at NHLS started at 7.30pm last evening. Results will be communicated shortly. Please disregard the fake post.”

It should be noted that as of Monday, the COVID-19 cases stood at 227 according to information from the Ministry of Heath, with 63 recoveries and no death registered.
