Police in Wakiso District are investigating a suspected suicide and murder case following a pre-dawn house fire in Nansana Municipality that left three people dead and six others injured.

The fire broke out at about 1am on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Nansana West 1F Village, with investigators now working to establish what happened in the moments before the blaze engulfed the house.

The deceased have been identified as Nanyombi Violet, the reported landlady, and her tenants, Namulondo Annet and Bulali Isabili.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, preliminary information suggests that the fire may have started in Nanyombi’s room.

Kawala said police were investigating allegations that Nanyombi pushed her daughter outside before the fire broke out, raising questions about whether the incident was deliberately started and what may have triggered it.

“It is alleged that the owner of the house, known as Nanyombi Violet, set fire to her room and pushed her daughter outside. Immediately after pushing her daughter outside, the fire broke out,” Kawala said.

Six other occupants survived the incident but sustained injuries and were taken for medical attention.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths have prompted a deeper investigation, with police treating the matter as a suspected suicide and murder as they seek to reconstruct the events inside the house before the fire spread.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke also indicated that investigators had found written material at the scene that could be relevant to the inquiry. Officers are further examining reports of violence and allegations that some occupants were forced out of the house shortly before the fire.

However, police have not yet established a definitive motive or confirmed who started the fire.

The condition of the bodies has also made identification and forensic examination necessary, with investigators expected to rely on additional evidence as they piece together what happened.

Police have urged the public to allow investigators to complete their work as inquiries continue into the circumstances that turned the residential house into a deadly scene.

The investigation is expected to focus on the events immediately preceding the fire, the relationship between the occupants, the written material recovered from the scene and whether the blaze was deliberately started.
