The Ministry of Health (MoH) is proposing to request President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to extend the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown after it observed that cases of infections are increasing in Kampala and other districts at rapid speed.

While launching the distribution of free face masks from government, Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, revealed that although the Ministry had initially identified truck drivers and travellers from abroad as the main carriers of COVID-19, there are new cases being registered yet their origins and contacts can’t be traced.

“If the trend continues we are likely to ask President Museveni to extend the lockdown for some more days, due to the untraceable cases that are being registered in Kampala and other areas,”Aceng said.

She noted that some people have adamantly refused to wear face masks, wash hands frequently or observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which could be the reason the country is registering many new COVID-19 cases.
