You Mean UPDF Is Trained To Crush Only Somalia Rebels? FDC ‘Roasts’ Gov’t As Masaka Killers Slaughter 29

Najjanankumbi: Today Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) political party has held a presser at their headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Kampala to express its concern about a number of issues affecting Ugandans most especially Masaka escalating killings.

According to party Spokesperson, John Kikonyogo, Government has failed to ensure peace and security for all Ugandans as per the constitution, before revealing that at least on a daily basis an average of one person succumbs to “Bijambia wielding men’ in Masaka.

Kikonyogo particularly wondered why Government was able to pacify panga wielding insurgents in the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Somalia among others, but can’t halt similar insurgents in its own district of Masaka. This is the second spate of such insurgents in Masaka.

He reasoned that people in Masaka may have a clue on who the murderers are but feel insecure to confide in the security operatives.

”It’s on record that the trust between Ugandans and security operatives has since declined and that’s why even those that may have a clue about the killers may feel insecure to report to Police since some of their officers on several occasions have been spotted working with criminals,” he noted.

He advised the government to invest in intelligence gathering and training of credible intelligence officers other than ministers rushing to chair security meetings in Masaka.

Meanwhile, Kikonyogo revealed that a similar gang of 20 boys has emerged in Lugala, Lubaga Division in Kampala targeting vehicles and road users, whom they hit using stones before taking off with their valuables..

”The sad note is that Police on the ground have failed to burst this terrible gang of boys that may soon become notorious. Whenever instances of this kind arise, the victims are referred to Old Kampala Police Station. We urge police to stop massaging criminals,” said Kikonyogo.

FDC’s alarm comes few hours after two more people were reportedly killed in two separate attacks in Masaka despite intensified security presence in the area.

The attacks occurred in Kitenga Cell, along the Nyendo-Villa Maria road in Nyendo Mukungwe Division in Masaka and Kingo Sub-County, Lwengo District respectively.

The latest victims are Maria Nakato, 78, a resident of Kitenga in Masaka and Henry Kiremba, 81, a retired medical officer from Kyoko village, Kingo Sub-County, Lwengo District.

The killers allegedly broke into the houses of the victims and stabbed them with blunt objects to death.

The latest incidents bring to 29 the number of people who have been killed under suspicious circumstances in space of five weeks in the Masaka sub-region.
