The newly US-appointed Ambassador to Uganda HE Natalie E. Brown has revealed that Uganda’s Election Commission is not only mandated to organize elections but also ensuring that they are organized in a way that will yield appropriate results to Ugandans/voters.

HE. Natalie noted these through the Embassy verified Twitter account adding that whatever role Electoral Commission plays within this electoral period, it must be democratic and transparent in nature and stop being partisan while enforcing campaign SOPs.

 

She said, “had a candid exchange today with the Uganda Electoral Commission Chair Justice Byabakama and his team on measures needed to ensure a democratic process citizens can trust.”

The development comes after last week Presidential Hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi Bobi Wine grilled officials of the Electoral Commission for sleeping in office amidst Uganda security forces’ dirty policing that have foiled may of his campaign meetings around the country.

During the meeting, Bobi Wine presented photographic evidence of Police and the Military using a lot of force to disperse his supporters, many of whom have been severely injured and others lost lives in addition to the ugly scenes yesterday that almost took his life along with MP Zaake when police shot at his car tires and window screen during his campaign trail.

Kyagulanyi accompanied by a five-person team after presenting their grievances to the EC boss, he promised to work on their issues but also advised them to avoid flouting COVID-19 guidelines by holding processions which lead to the spread of the deadly disease.
