The Pan African Pyramid (PAP) has issued a scathing condemnation of the African Union Commission (AUC), accusing it of hypocrisy and complicity in legitimizing dictatorship across Africa, particularly in Cameroon, following its congratulatory message to President Paul Biya on his controversial re-election.

In a strongly worded press release dated October 31, 2025, PAP Speaker and Founder Andrew Irumba Katusabe described the AU’s statement as “shameful and insulting to the collective conscience of the African people.” He said the continental body had betrayed its founding principles of unity, integrity, democracy, and human dignity.

“It is an affront to the very principles upon which the African Union was founded,” Irumba said. “For decades, Cameroonians have groaned under authoritarian rule, electoral fraud, and systematic repression. The recent elections, marred by violence, intimidation, and arrests, cannot be described as free or fair.”

According to PAP, evidence points to opposition leader Isaa Tchiroma Bakary as the true winner of the election, accusing President Biya of using “treacherous means” to cling to power despite the popular will of the people.

Irumba faulted the AU Commission, under H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, for losing its moral authority to represent Africans, claiming it had become a “ceremonial arm of the very powers it was meant to resist.” He cited the AU’s repeated pattern of congratulating autocratic regimes while ignoring the cries of citizens facing oppression.

“The AU never shows up when Africa bleeds,” Irumba stated. “It only surfaces when the dust settles, eager to preside over post-crisis conferences and issue empty communiqués.”

PAP further accused the AU of punishing countries such as Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and others in the Sahel that have attempted to liberate themselves from failed systems, instead of engaging with their grievances.

The statement called on the African Union to “either reclaim its founding vision or dissolve itself,” urging it to stand with citizens rather than dictators.

“Africa deserves a union of conscience, not of convenience; a leadership of integrity, not of hypocrisy,” Irumba emphasised. “Until the AU defends the sovereignty and dignity of African citizens, it remains a hollow shadow of its promise.”

The Pan African Pyramid, a Kampala-based pan-African movement, champions pan-Africanism, justice, and good governance across the continent.
