Kampala: Alternative Uganda Movement (TAU) has petitioned the Rt Hon.Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, Deputy Speaker Anita Among and Leader of Opposition Hon.Mathias Mpuuga to intervene in the matter of its member Ferdinard Luta who was arrested in Kampala for caning an effigy of President Museveni.

Ruta was arrested by Police on 15th February 2021 along Entebbe Road canning President Museveni’s effigy accusing it of commanding “rampant drone kidnaps and rigged election”.

The movement’s national coordinator Norman Tumuhimbise says Luta who was arrested by Kampala Central Police Station was later picked by military police and detained at Makindye Military Police Barracks before being charged with illegal possession of government stores.

”It is very funny and dramatic to see that Luta who was arrested for caning an effigy was arraigned before the Unit Disciplinary Committee of Makindye Military Barracks and charged with unlawful possession of government stores before being remanded to Kitalya prison,” said Norman.

Norman further says ever since Luta was arrested earlier this year, his relatives-wife inclusive have been denied an opportunity to access him. He adds that this prompted the Mov’t’s leadership to assign one of the members Mukiibi Abubaker to check him from Kitalya where they were informed by Military Brigade Commandant Col Keith Katungi that its where he was remanded.

To the Mov’ts shock however, Norman says when Abubaker reached their and even paid UGX50000 as per the requirement, he was informed that Luta was not in their hands something that he says has since left them doubting whether their colleague is still alive or not.

It is against this background that the Movement has called upon parliamentary leaders to intervene in this matter by squeezing the Minister of Internal Affairs Major General Kahinda Otafiire to produce their member and all other Ugandans whose whereabouts are still unknown mostly political prisoners.

”Of course, it is not only Luta that is illegally in the government hands, not even MP Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya alone..but the regime has since abducted hundreds of our fellows over political reasons..it’s our humble request that Speaker squeezes Internal Affairs Minister to produce our people alive or dead,” noted furious Norman.
