Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has alleged that security forces violently raided his home in Magere, Wakiso District, leaving his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, hospitalised and house property extensively damaged.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Kyagulanyi said hundreds of soldiers descended on his residence late at night, with many reportedly wearing uniforms of the Special Forces Command (SFC), others in Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) attire, and some in plain clothes.

According to Kyagulanyi, the security personnel forcefully broke doors, smashed windows and damaged walls using hammers as they conducted a search for him.

He alleged that during the operation, his wife was held at gunpoint and repeatedly questioned about his whereabouts. He further claimed that soldiers confiscated money, important documents and several electronic devices, including mobile phones, laptops, CCTV cameras, internet equipment, speakers and chargers.

Kyagulanyi also accused the soldiers of physically assaulting his wife after she reportedly refused to unlock her phone. He said she was subjected to humiliation and ethnic insults during the ordeal.

“They entered every part of our house, including the ceiling, and left destruction everywhere,” Kyagulanyi said. “They grabbed my wife’s phone, forced her to sit down and ordered her to remove the password. When she refused, they strangled her and insulted her.”

He further alleged that the soldiers beat the family’s security guard and house help while demanding to know where he and their children were hiding.

Kyagulanyi claimed that his wife was forcefully undressed and photographed during the operation, and that some of the soldiers spoke to her in Runyankore while questioning her marriage and political stance.

Following the incident, Kyagulanyi said his wife was rushed to the hospital, where she remains admitted while receiving treatment for both physical injuries and psychological trauma.

Security authorities had not immediately commented on the allegations by the time of publication.
