A private security guard was shot dead on Monday evening after armed robbers attacked a guarded premises in Kiwatule, Nakawa Division, Kampala.
The identity of the guard had not yet been established by the time of publication.
According to preliminary police information, the attackers overpowered the guard before shooting him at close range. An unspecified amount of money was reportedly stolen during the incident.
Police said investigations have been launched to establish the identities of the assailants and the exact circumstances surrounding the killing. By press time, no arrests had been made.
The shooting has heightened concerns over the rising cases of nighttime armed robberies in Kampala’s residential and commercial suburbs, with residents calling for increased security patrols and surveillance.
Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest security authorities.
