President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has taken concrete steps to support the new Tooro King, Edward Kijanangoma Nyabongo I, providing official royal vehicles, security personnel and other logistical support as the kingdom proceeds with its customary transition following the burial of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The development was confirmed by the royal camp of King Kijanangoma, which expressed appreciation to President Museveni for what it described as tangible support and protection extended to the new monarch.
According to the royal camp, President Museveni has provided the King with an official royal vehicle, a pickup for the royal guards and top-level security personnel assigned to protect him.
“On behalf of our King, Edward Kiinangoma Nyabongo I, we thank President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for sending the official royal car, the royal guards’ official pickup and top-notch security personnel to guard our King,” an insider of the royal camp noted.
The latest action by the President comes as Tooro enters a significant period of transition following the burial of King Oyo, who died in the United States aged 34 after a period of medical treatment.
The Kijanangoma royal camp also acknowledged the support of Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, particularly in ensuring that commitments made around the late King’s burial and royal sites were implemented.
Among the initiatives highlighted was the construction of King Oyo’s Iziba, or royal grave, as well as the renovation of the Karambi Royal Tombs, locally known as Amagasani.
The camp further commended Gen. Muhoozi for ensuring security at Karambi and the royal palace from the beginning of the burial arrangements through the current transition period.
“We thank the CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for supporting and implementing all that he promised, including construction of King Oyo’s Iziba, renovation of the entire Karambi royal tombs, provision of security at Karambi and at the Palace from day one up to now,” the insider added.
The royal camp’s message also addressed the recent discussion surrounding legal advice reportedly submitted to President Museveni concerning the Tooro succession.
It stressed that the legal advice was directed to the President in his capacity as Head of State and was therefore for his consideration before making a final decision.
The camp welcomed what it described as the President’s decision to communicate through action, pointing to the support already extended to King Kiinangoma.
“The legal advice was to the President, not to Tooro Kingdom… The author decided to use it himself. We’re happy the President has communicated through action,” insider added.
The royal camp said the customary programme surrounding the transition remains on course, noting that Kujumura Engoma is expected after nine days, in accordance with their customs and counting from Saturday when King Oyo was laid to rest.
President Museveni’s latest intervention places the focus on practical support for the Tooro royal institution as the kingdom navigates the period following King Oyo’s death.
With official royal transport, security and logistical arrangements now in place for King Kijanangoma, the new monarch’s camp says it is focused on observing Tooro customs and ensuring a peaceful transition.
