Busongora South By Election: EC Nominates Seven Candidates For The MP Race

On Tuesday, August 09, 2022 marked the last day of nominations for the Busongora South parliamentary by – election in Kasese district.

At the end of two day exercise, the returning officer nominated seven candidates to face off for the by election. The NRM party candidate Gideon Mujungu nominated at about 11 AM.

Mujungu pledged to fly the NRM flag high and address the challenges of poor service delivery like poor roads, water scarcity and poor health infrastructure facing the people of Busongora South.

“Busongora South has many challenges and we shall put them on table in the context of the manifesto of NRM. We have challenges of education challenges of health, roads, so we shall articulate this agenda going forward to ensure we implement our manifesto as NRM in the next four year” Mujungu said.

At the nomination center Mujungu was in the company NRM officials both local and national including the party’s 1st vice national chairperson Alhajji Moses Kigongo.

The top NRM bosses in the district led by the party chairman Kasese Dr. Crispus Kiyongo pledged to canvas votes to ensure that their flag bearer Gideon Mujungu retains Busongora South.

The candidate briefly addressed his first nomination rally at NRM offices before proceeding with a procession being accompanied by supporters to a nomination rally at Kigoro primary school play grounds in Rukoki Sub County.

He affirmed his commitment to address challenges of poor service delivery like poor roads, water scarcity and poor health infrastructure facing the people of Busongora South.

During the exercise the retuning officer Kasese Ismail Atwijukire urged the candidates to follow campaign guidelines to avoid clashes and chaos.

The nomination of David Mulindwa Isimbwa and Juma Munezero as independent candidates has now brought the total number of candidates to 7 and this will make the campaigns tight since major political parties have candidates to participate.

The 7 candidates nominated have 6 days to campaign before voting on 18th august.
