Dumped Ethics Minister Lokodo, CCEDU’s Crispin Kaheru Scoop Juicy Jobs At Human Rights Commission

Kampala: Finally, President Museveni has thought after ousted Ethics and Integrity Minister, Fr. Simon Lokodo and employed him as a commissioner for the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC).

The Uganda Human Rights Commission serves to monitor and advance human rights in Uganda.

Lokodo was dropped in the 2021-2026 cabinet after being replaced by Akello Rose, a politician and social worker representing Karenga as the district woman member of parliament in the eleventh parliament of Uganda.

Museveni also appointed former coordinator for Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU), Crispin Kaheru, former Kampala Woman MP and opposition politician, Shifra Lukwago and Jackie Atuheire as commissioners.

Our spy at parliament has since learnt that the above presidential appointees and that of Mariam Wangadya, the new UHRC chairperson have since been received and are under perusal for vetting on Wednesday by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee.

Clerk’s Letter

“The Appointments Committee is scheduled to interact with these presidential nominees on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 10am in the conference hall, parliament house,” a notice by parliamentary clerk states.

About UHRC

The UHRC is a body established under the 1995 Constitution Article 51 under the Bill of Rights found in Chapter Four of the Constitution. It is based on the Paris Principles which are the guidelines for the establishment of a national human rights institution. Its mandate is spelt out in Article 52 of the Constitution.

The Commission is composed of a Chairperson, and not less than three other persons, appointed by the President with the approval of Parliament.
