MUKONO – On this memorable morning of Friday, 3rd,July, 2025, at Uganda Christian University’s Mukono campus, Dunstan Busuulwa—seasoned broadcaster, media executive and industry thought leader—has graduated with a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication (MASC), marking a significant academic milestone in a career defined by resilience, reinvention, and relentless professionalism.

Busuulwa, who currently serves as the Chief Operations Officer (COO) of BBS Terefayina, has traversed a transformative media journey spanning over two decades. His broadcasting odyssey began in 2003 with professional training at Capital Radio, before fully immersing himself in the journalism ecosystem at TOP Radio in 2004. There, he evolved from reporter to anchor, later ascending to managerial roles and eventually transitioning to television with TOP TV.

In 2016, Busuulwa joined BBS Terefayina as a presenter, a role that saw him merge editorial acumen with on-air charisma. His meteoric rise within the station culminated in his appointment as Chief Operations Officer in November 2019, making him the second-in-command at one of Uganda’s most influential media houses.

Today’s graduation is not only a celebration of academic excellence but also a moment of introspection. As he clutches his degree, Busuulwa is poignantly reminded of Afirika Buyondo Ddamilira, a fallen colleague and close friend whose influence on his media persona remains indelible.

“Buyondo joined TOP Radio from Impact FM as a talkshow host and found me there as News Editor,” Busuulwa recalls. “We worked side by side in Current Affairs. He was exceptionally cooperative, a quiet powerhouse who mentored me in political talk show hosting.”

Their camaraderie transcended the studio. When illness struck Buyondo, Busuulwa was by his side—first at Mulago Hospital, and ultimately at Nakasero Hospital, where Buyondo drew his final breath. “His death was a heavy personal blow,” Busuulwa admits. “But he left me with the confidence and capacity to carry on his legacy. When he passed, management asked me to permanently host the show he once anchored.”

Today’s achievement is more than academic—it is symbolic. It honors not just Busuulwa’s intellectual evolution but the memory of a man who believed in him. “This degree is not mine alone. It belongs to every mentor who shaped my journey—and none more than Buyondo,” he says, his voice steady yet soaked with sentiment.

With a sharpened strategic lens and a fortified academic foundation, Busuulwa now stands at the vanguard of media transformation in Uganda—ready to shape discourse, influence policy, and mentor the next generation of communicators.
