Fort Portal Catholic Diocese Announces Plans To Shift St Mary’s Seminary To Kyenjojo

Plans underway of shifting St. Mary’s Minor Seminary Virika from Fort Portal city to premises of St. Augustine Teachers College Butiiti in Kyenjojo district.

 

A letter dated March 30 2023, signed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa the ordinary Bishop of Fort Portal catholic diocese, indicates that Diocesan Board of Trustees thought it prudent to shifting the seminary is because of the bigger space in Kyenjojo hence opportunities for expansion and erect income generating projects.

In the same letter, the bishop appointed Mr. Aloysius Rujuma the diocesan education secretary -DES as chairperson steering committee that will oversee the shifting process.

“This is in reference to the resolution passed in the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal, on 18th March 2023, of the need for a steering committee that will oversee the shifting of St.Mary’s Seminary from the current premises at Virika to St. Augustine’s Core P.T.C, Butiiti,” says Bishop Muhiirwa.

“I am therefore, appointing you on this committee, in the above-mentioned capacity. I further inform you that, together with other members on this committee, you will start your work early April 2023. The Principal Tutor and the other Tutors, may be leaving the college premises by end of June 2023 and then the college will be fully in our hands. Consequently, there is need for meeting to make a road map to plan for the shift of St. Mary’s Seminary to Butiiti,” inked Bishop Muhiirwa.
