Kampala: Presidential Hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi Bobi Wine has Wednesday grilled officials of the Electoral Commission for sleeping in office amidst Uganda security forces’ dirty policing that have foiled may of his campaign meetings around the country.
Bobi Wine who was supposed to campaign in Jinja today, took the day off to meet with EC Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama at the Commission offices in Kampala.
The Electoral Commission confirmed that Bobi Wine and his team had “requested to meet the Returning Officer and Chairperson/Electoral Commission, and members of the Commission today Wednesday, 2nd December 2020, to make a presentation on issues concerning the conduct of campaigns for Presidential Elections.”
During the meeting, Bobi Wine presented photographic evidence of Police and the Military using a lot of force to disperse his supporters, many of whom have been severely injured and others lost lives in addition to the ugly scenes yesterday that almost took his life along with MP Zaake when police shot at his car tires and window screen during his campaign trail.
After vandalizing his official car, as he approached Jinja town, his already destroyed car was riddled with bullets that forced his tire to puncture, as the police held him from what one of the officers described as an “unmarked” route to the assembly.
This occurred a few minutes after several injured people were recorded in Kayunga district where Bobi’s bodyguard, ASP Kato and his producer Daniel Oyerwot aka Dan Magic were shot and injured by rubber bullets.
Kyagulanyi accompanied by a five-person team after presenting their grievances to the EC boss, he promised to work on their issues but also advised them to avoid flouting COVID-19 guidelines by holding processions which lead to the spread of the deadly disease.
Meanwhile, Uganda Police and military deployed heavily around Kampala city as Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert’s meeting with Byabakama and his team was going on.
