Kampala: Makerere University management is considering scrapping off some courses and firing some lecturers as a measure to bring harmony at the ivory tower.
This follows a resolution by some lecturers not to conduct evening classes in the next financial year 2018/2019, incase the management fails to increase their gratuity. The lecturers cautioned the management against admitting new students in the coming academic year for evening classes if they’re not ready to revise their gratuity.
These lecturers have also gone ahead to give an ultimatum to have their gratuity paid, failure to do so, they will withdraw their labour.
Speaking to our reporter at Makerere University, the vice Chancellor Prof. Banarbus Nawangwe, revealed that they had a meeting with these lecturers and agreed to increase their gratuity but unconditionally, thus cautioning that the lecturers actions might land them into trouble.
