Minister For Luwero Triangle Alice Kaboyo Flags Off Africa Kwetu Fuel Economy Tour 2021

Kampala: State Minister for Luwero Triangle & Rwenzori Region Hon.Alice Kaboyo on Wednesday afternoon officially flagged off ‘The Africa Kwetu Fuel Economy Tour 2021’ at Pearl Of Africa Hotel in Kampala.

The four-day tour that involves a rally challenge will kick off tomorrow (Thursday)16th and will end on Sunday 19th. Drivers will depart from Kampala at exactly 7am, drive through the entire Luwero Triangle and sleep in Hoima. On the second day they will drive through Rwenzori region, sleep in Fort Portal and then end in Mbarara through Kasese on the last day before returning to Kampala via Masaka.

Flagging off the team for this year’s event which is the second, Minister Kaboyo commended organizers for maintaining the spirit of patriotism.

Kaboyo boosted the event with UGX10M cash, which she said was from the office of Prime minister as their support for the initiative.

It should be remembered that the first event was organized in 2020 by Kaboyo herself as the brain behind it. It was launched by H.E the President, who walked 195km for seven days, from Garamba in Wakiso district to Kibaale. These areas were part of the fighting zones during the 1981-86 liberation struggle.

”I wish to commend the organizers of the Africa Kwetu Tour for the spirit of patriotism that has propelled you to organize this event that will pass through some of the fighting zones of the NRA liberation struggle, promote domestic tourism, create awareness on environmental protection and show some of the achievements of the NRM government,” said the Minister before adding, ”I am glad to know that the account of the story to freedom as told by our heroes during the trek has sparked interest among the young.”

”I can confirm that H.E the President will be pleased to pass on the button on to you so that we preserve this part of our history for posterity. This will help the current and future generations have a basis to shape their own narrative about our country,” added the Minister.

Commenting on President’s 2020 Trek, the Minister told journalists that President Museveni was passionate about telling the country’s story and this was the reason for the trek, to urge the young to appreciate Uganda’s journey to freedom that came at a high cost.

”A lot was shared with the young and H.E the President did not miss the opportunity to impart values and the importance of strategic planning, focusing, perseverance and discipline that our heroes embodied during the NRA liberation struggle,” added the Minister.

Kaboyo urged participants to observe COVID-19 SOPs and guidelines as advised by the Ministry of Health and the President.
