Police Officer Shoots One Dead, Injures Four

Bushenyi, Uganda: A police officer  has been arrested for allegedly shooting  one person  dead and injuring four others on on Sunday night.

Corporal Nickson Kamara, who is attached to Kizinda Police Station in Bushenyi district, was arrested by Bushenyi Police on allegations of opening fire at a group of people at Home Again bar in Kizinda trading center, who were enjoying  their booze. Greater Bushenyi Region Police Spokesperson Martial Tumusiime said that “The officer had gone to arrest some chaotic people at the pub.  However, the revelers he found at the bar turned against the officer, leading to a scuffle, which forced him to open fire, which killed Brian Nuwamanya, a resident of Kizinda in Nyabubare Sub County.”

Tumusiime added that four others who include Hamson Atuhimbise and Gilbert Tubenawe also sustained injuries and were later rushed to a nearby health centre for medical attention. He however revealed that Kamara will face charges of attempted murder, murder and gun misuse when investigations are completed.
