In a remarkable demonstration of faith, community solidarity, and public service, the Rwenzori East Regional Police have donated UGX 2.6 million toward the construction of the new Kasese Catholic Cathedral.

The donation was officially presented during a special Sunday service held on April 27, 2025, at the Cathedral grounds, where police officers themselves led the congregation in prayer and reflection. Regional Police Commander, SSP Odoch Dennis, who spearheaded the fundraising campaign, emphasized that the initiative symbolizes more than the construction of a building — it represents a commitment to building a safer, stronger Kasese through spiritual and social unity.
“This is not just about constructing a building; it’s about building a safer, stronger Kasese through spiritual and social unity,” SSP Odoch told worshippers.

The Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph Mbusa, who commended the police for their generous gesture and recognized the growing partnership between the Church and security agencies. He stressed that strengthening moral values and community support structures is vital in fighting crime and uplifting the youth.

The Kasese Catholic Cathedral, currently under construction, is set to become a major landmark for the Catholic community in Kasese District. Beyond serving as a center of worship, the Cathedral will host community outreach activities, vocational training programs, and crime prevention initiatives in collaboration with security agencies.
Following the service, SSP Nelson Tumusiime, Regional Police Spokesperson, outlined the broader community strategy underpinning the Police’s engagement. He revealed that the force has significantly intensified partnerships with civil society organizations, NGOs, and religious institutions to address deep-rooted social issues such as human trafficking, domestic violence, forced marriages, and child labor.
“In recent years, we have realized that law enforcement alone is not enough. We need the Church, the schools, the families — all stakeholders — to be part of the crime prevention framework,” SSP Tumusiime said.
Community policing efforts in the region have expanded, with officers actively participating in public sensitization campaigns, youth mentorship programs, and safety drives. These initiatives have not only contributed to a noticeable reduction in crime but have also boosted public trust and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
Police leadership emphasized that supporting initiatives like the Cathedral construction marks a new era of community collaboration, where security, morality, and development are pursued hand-in-hand. The Rwenzori East Police pledged to continue championing similar projects as part of their long-term strategy to foster public confidence, social cohesion, and lasting peace across the region.
