Scandalous: Shs46m Land Deal Lands Two Bunyangabu Officials In Trouble

By Spy Uganda

Two Bunyangabu District Local Government officials have been charged with abuse of office and remanded to September 25, 2026, over allegations linked to the purchase of land for Nyakigumba Town Council.

The officials are Bajenje Kenneth, a Town Clerk, and Kitalengwa Beatrice, a Senior Treasurer. They were arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Division following investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Prosecution alleges that in 2022, while serving as Town Clerk and Senior Treasurer respectively at Nyakigumba Town Council, the two officials abused their positions by purchasing land in Kisomoro II Cell, East Ward, Nyakigumba Town Council, without following mandatory procurement procedures required for local governments acquiring property.

According to the allegations, the land acquired was less than the size that had been planned for, resulting in an estimated financial loss of more than Shs46 million to the Government.

The Anti-Corruption Unit said the officials’ alleged failure to follow the required procedures formed the basis of the charges before court.

Their arraignment is part of the ongoing “Expose the Corrupt” campaign, which is aimed at strengthening accountability in local governments and ensuring that public resources are properly managed.

Bajenje and Kitalengwa will remain on remand until September 25, when they are expected to return to court.

The allegations against the two officials have not been proved, and they remain entitled to due process as the case proceeds.
