Speaker Kadaga Summons Energy Min.Kitutu Over Defective Umeme Meters

By Spy Uganda

Kampala: During her official tour over the weekend, Rt.Hon. Speaker Alitwala Kadaga traveled to various parts of the country and discovered several issues affecting Ugandans wherever she went.

Among the areas she traveled to, was the new tourism City of Fort Portal, where she was told that Umeme was selling defective meters which consume electricity units at a very fast rate. Infact, they told her, UMEME Yaka meters could be faster than MTN crocodiles on data.

This has since prompted the Speaker to task the Minister of Energy Dr Mary Kitutu  investigate the accuracy of the said meters so that they could be withdrawn, if found faulty.

“I want to ask the Minister of Energy to look into the performance of those meters so that citizens can be advised. If they are defective, they should be withdrawn” Speaker posted.

In the same vein, Kadaga also discovered that the Ministry of Energy failed to effectively supply power in the West Nile region.

Residents reported to the Speaker that they were given a city without electricity, which prompted her to summon the Minister for Energy  Dr Kitutu to Parliament and explain the root cause of all the complaints.

“They continue to complain about power supply. They say we gave them a city without electricity. I hope the Minister of Energy will come to Parliament and explain what is being done about it because this is a perennial complaint, which has not been resolved,” the Speaker said.

Kadaga also noted that she was informed that construction of Akii-bua stadium has not been completed a project and that the project was last attended to in 2017 adding that, “Equally, Buhinga stadium in Fort Portal has also not been completed. I want to interest the Minister of Education and Sports in this issue.”
