Virika Cathedral Grants Kyamatanga Parish Status

Fort Portal: The Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal, Robert Muhiirwa has boosted joy amongst God’s followers in his diocese after granting the long-awaited Parish status to believers of Kyamatanga Parish, Buheesi Sub-county in Bunyangabu district.

Bp.Muhiirwa via his letter addressed to Father Titus Winyi the Parish Priest of Virika Cathedral Parish, says the development of the new parish has been reached on after a thorough study of the application of the same Parish that was accompanied by the comprehensive assessment by the Committee responsible for the creation of new Parishes.

Bishop’s Letter

“After a thorough study of your application for Parish Status of St. Joseph of Kyamatanga and basing on the comprehensive assessment by the Committee responsible for the creation of new Parishes, I am pleased to inform you that St. Joseph Kyamatanga is granted Parish Status,” he announced.

The Bishop adds that the new Parish of Kyamatanga will be opened on 21 March 2021 starting with Holy Mass at 10:00. He, however, cautioned believers to observe Standard Operating Procedures while celebrating this new achievement.

“Thank you for the work you are doing in ministry serving the people of God in Virika Cathedral Parish, I thank you together with your immediate collaborators, and the Committee for the creation of new Parishes for the preparations in view of opening the new Parish in consideration of the current situation of COVID-19 work closely with the Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator to ensure the observances of SOPs during the ceremonies of opening the New Parish,” Bishop’s letter partially reads.

Bishop Muhiirwa who was appointed bishop of Fort Portal on 18 March 2003, adds in his letter that the other details concerning the assignments and declaration of boundaries will be communicated later.
