FORT PORTAL, TOORO –June 19, 2025:Fresh controversy has erupted surrounding the death of Prince Humphrey Mirembe Amooti, a grandson to the late Omukama Kyebambe of Tooro Kingdom, as two women claiming to be his legitimate wives are now locked in a bitter feud, with questions emerging about the circumstances of his death.

Prince Mirembe, who served at Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) from the early 1990s until 2002, died last week under what some family members and close associates are now calling “mysterious circumstances.”

One Prince, Two Wives At War

According to family sources, Mirembe was first married to a woman identified as Christine. The two officially tied the knot in a church ceremony over two decades ago and had children together. However, the marriage hit the rocks after a tragic incident surrounding the death of their third child.

During the child’s burial, a man reportedly stormed the funeral claiming that the deceased child was his biological son, not Mirembe’s. A DNA test allegedly confirmed his claims, sending shockwaves through the royal household and ending the marriage. Mirembe reportedly never officially annulled the marriage in court, a legal loophole that now forms the basis of the current feud.

Several years after the split, Mirembe entered into a new relationship with a woman we shall for now identify with only one name- Jesca, a woman with whom he has cohabited for over 15 years. The couple bore three children and adopted a fourth child fathered by Mirembe outside of their union, raising a total of four children together.

Allegations of Death Under Dubious Circumstances

While the Kingdom had announced an official burial program set to culminate on Friday, June 20th at Karambi Royal Tombs, insiders now claim the Prince may not have died from the hospital as earlier announced. According to sources close to the family, Christine allegedly took Mirembe from the hospital immediately his one leg 🦵 had just been cut off from Mulago Hospital under unclear circumstances shortly before his death was confirmed few days later.

“There are unanswered questions. The Prince was ill, yes, but stable. Then suddenly, he was taken from the hospital without proper clearance, and only days later, news of his death broke. This has raised many suspicions within the family, given the fact that Christine, who had divorced the man for over 20 yrs, came to the hospital, chased away the new woman from the room yet she is the one who had brought him to the hospital, and then took (Christine) him away mysteriously, where did she take him and why?, a royal family insider asked.

Police Launch Investigations

As tensions escalate, law enforcement has been forced to intervene. Wandegeya Police reportedly summoned both women yesterday (Wednesday) to record statements regarding the circumstances of Mirembe’s death. However, sources reveal that their accounts were highly contradictory, casting further doubt over what transpired in the Prince’s final days.

“The fact that both women told different stories has deepened the confusion. This isn’t just a family matter anymore—there are legal questions at play,” a police source involved in the inquiry disclosed.

Final Journey To Forty Portal Begins Amid Turmoil

Despite the ongoing investigations and the bitter wrangling between the two women, Mirembe’s body was today transported to Fort Portal ahead of the final send-off scheduled for Friday.

An official vigil is being held at Harukoto, hosted at the residence of Omubito Araali Switizer Kaijomurubi. A church service will precede the burial at the Karambi Royal Tombs, a site reserved for Tooro royals.

The royal family, friends, and well-wishers continue to mourn the man remembered for his integrity, professionalism, and service. However, as the Kingdom prepares to lay one of its own to rest, the internal disputes and emerging questions about his death cast a long shadow over the ceremonies.

Police was heavily present today during Church service at Redeemed Church along Gadafi road in Kampala to quell any possible altercations between two camps.
