Entire Nation Mourns: Tributes Continue To Pour In For Rajiv Ruparelia

Uganda is in mourning following the tragic passing of Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia, a prominent entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group. Rajiv, 35, died in a fatal car accident on May 3, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that has deeply impacted the nation’s education sector and business community.

Condolence messages have poured in from institutions across Uganda, reflecting the depth of grief and admiration for the late leader.

Kampala Parents’ School, where Rajiv served as Managing Director, described his death as a “sudden demise” and a great loss. In a heartfelt tribute, the school referred to him as “a guiding light and generous leader” whose dedication and kindness will be remembered by all who worked with him. “His legacy of kindness, guidance, and dedication will forever be cherished,” the message read.

Similarly, Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUaST) extended condolences to the Ruparelia family and the Victoria University community, where Rajiv played a key leadership role. EQUaST praised Rajiv’s “unwavering commitment to academic excellence,” calling him “a beacon of inspiration within Uganda’s education sector.”

The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) also issued an official condolence letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of Victoria University. Signed by Executive Director Prof. Mary J. N. Okwakol, the letter acknowledged Rajiv’s contribution as a member of the University’s Board of Trustees and emphasized the void his passing leaves in Uganda’s higher education landscape. “This is an immense loss not only to the University but also to the higher education sector in Uganda,” the statement read.

In one of the most emotional tributes, Victoria University released a message titled “Director Rajiv, We Salute You.” The university described him as a “remarkable visionary” who reshaped its identity through reinvestment, innovation, and a passion for empowering youth. The message spoke to the emotional toll of the loss, stating: “At times, we are lost for words… But all is not lost—if we walk the path you showed us… then, perhaps, our tears will begin to dry.”

Further tributes have come from across the medical and academic sectors. UMC Victoria Hospital extended its deepest sympathies to the Ruparelia family, calling Rajiv’s death untimely and expressing solidarity during this difficult time. “May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may you find comfort and strength in the love that surrounds you,” read the hospital’s message.

From the eastern region, the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) issued condolences to Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia for the loss of his son. The university expressed deep sympathy on behalf of its Rector, staff, and students, praying that “the Good Allah comfort you and the entire Rajiv Ruparelia family.” The message was a testament to Rajiv’s national influence, transcending religious and institutional boundaries.

In the education sector, Delhi Public School International (DPSI) in Kampala, where Rajiv served as a school director, mourned his passing with a touching tribute. The school credited his “unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, and boundless generosity” as instrumental in shaping the institution. “His memory will forever remain in our hearts,” the school wrote.

Under Rajiv’s leadership, Victoria University gained a reputation for embracing digital transformation, academic reform, and student-focused growth. He was known for his personal involvement in institutional affairs and his ability to inspire both students and staff.

Rajiv Ruparelia, son of business magnate Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, had steadily emerged as a formidable leader in Uganda’s private education and real estate sectors. His death has cast a pall over the institutions he led and the thousands of lives he touched.
