Gen.Tumukunde Unveils Campaign Team To Generate Support In 2021 Elections

Kampala: The Renewed Uganda pressure group under Lt Gen. Henry Tumukunde yesterday officially launched its executive committee dubbed campaign team that will run the affairs of the organizations and generate support for Gen.Tumukunde in the forthcoming general elections.

The executive is headed by Mr. Omar Kalinge Nnyago as the national chairperson, office of the chairperson occupied by  Ms. Lucy Ajok, Hon. Annette Nyakecho as the deputy national chairperson, Mr. James Oromait and Mr. Kennedy Olum are ttachés in the office of the candidate.

Other leaders are Hon. Beatrice Kiraso as the chief of staff, Counsel Hamada Mulumba as executive assistant, Mr. Arthur K. Mwenkanya as the spokesperson, Counsel Alex Luganda as the deputy chief of staff, Mr. David Lukwago as the head of strategic team, Mr. Andrew Arach as the national political coordinator.

In addition, Mr. Shafiq Ddembe is the deputy national political coordinator, Ms. Judith Ananga is the head women’s desk, Hajati Sumaya Nakitende is the deputy head women’s desk, Ms. Sheila Obiya is the youth Desk officer, Mr.Wilfred B. Bwebale the female representative, Mr. Ismail Muzamiluu the male representative, Prof. Isaac Newton Ojok the head of political strategy, Mr. Charles Yakani the deputy head political strategy, Dr. Henry Ssali head of external relations and Mr. Maurice Agili responsible for diaspora relations.

While unveiling the committee, chairman Omar Kalinge Nyago, said the reason of setting up the committee is to show Ugandans that General Tumukunde is not alone in the presidential race.

“At such times when government is trying to oust us out of the race by unlimitedly arresting Gen Tumukunde, the organisation’s activities should continue to run” said chairman Kalinge.

These come after security forces previously arrested Gen.Tumukunde and his 17 coordinators of Renewed Uganda political platform who were found in a meeting in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Mr Patrick Onyango said the detained coordinators were violating guidelines that were announced by the government to control the spread of coronavirus.

“We got a tip that a group of people were hold a meeting that was likely to lead to the spread of an infectious disease. A team was sent there and found a group of people seated without respecting social distance and they were not wearing masks,” Onyango said.
