The no nonsense Army officer, Col. Edith Nakalema who is the head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested 4 officials from the Office of the Prime minister and the suppliers of the substandard relief items meant for Kasese Flood victims last month.
The arrested officials are;
- Mr. Kayima Godfrey (Accounting Officer)
- Mrs. Nakabugo Rose (Ag. Commissioner Disaster)
- Mrs. Esther Majorine Odongo (Procurement Officer)
- Mr Agaba Tumwine Henry (Internal Auditor)
It’s worth noting that Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on 20th July, 2021 rejected an assortment of relief items meant for flood victims in Kasese District, saying they were substandard.
Among the items she ordered to be returned to the suppliers included 40,000kgs of maize flour, 20,000kgs of beans, 2,000kgs of sugar, 2,000 pieces of tarpaulin, 1,350 jerry cans, 1,000 basins, 100 cartons of laundry soap, 1,000 mosquito nets, 100 blankets, and 100 mats.
TheSpy Uganda previously established that Ms Nabbanja from Kasese rushed into a meeting with Col Edith Nakalema and agreed to kick off investigations into the matter which were instituted immediately.
Important to mention is that its not the first time corruption scandals have been spotted in the Prime Minister’s Office; In 2020 during Ruhakana Rugunda’s stewardship, Nakalema swung into action and arrested a couple of officers who included permanent Secretary Kintu Guwatudde, Martin Owor – Commissioner, Joel Wanjala, undersecretary and Fred Lutimba.
