The spokesperson of Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Brig Felix Kulayigye has revealed that they shot and killed one of the assailants who raided and killed one of the soldiers at Gaddafi Barracks.

“Today, 26th Nov 2022, one of the assailants that carried out the attack on Sentry along Amber Court road in Gaddafi Barracks where one soldier was killed and two SMG rifles stolen has been put out of action and two stolen guns recovered,” said Kulayigye.

In the above mentioned attack, unknown people raided the barracks and killed Sergeant Simon Peter Eyagu who was guarding the barracks and took off with two guns.

In a press release issued later, Brig Gen Kulayigye said Eyagu was deployed with Corporal Norico Kibirige to guard the small gate of the Ambercoat road close to the barracks and the attack happened moments after Kibirige had gone to buy some drinks.

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, said that the attackers took advantage of the location of the mini-checkpoint, which is about 1 kilometer away from Gaddafi main barracks.

Security personnel have since last year been investigating incidents of attacks on police posts and theft of guns.

A number of arrests have been made and the attacks are being linked to a rebel outfit, the Uganda Coalition Forces for Change –UCFC whose alleged commander David Frank Ssemogerere alias Col Ndugwa was arrested and currently battling charges in the General Court Martial.
