Remember that two days ago, presidential press secretary Don Wanyama announced that president Museveni would be addressing the country on matters of national interest.
He Tweeted, “Kind reminder good people; the President will address the country this evening, 8pm. Catch him on any TV or radio.”
Former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi who claims to have won the January polls had scheduled an address on Friday evening which didn’t take place due to ‘disruption of the internet and sudden power cuts’ hence pushing it to today Sunday at the same time with that of Museveni.
Something, noteworthy here is that Kyagulanyi might only get an audience from Ugandans on social media but also note that Facebook which is his center of communication is still blocked in Uganda whereas President Museveni as per the privilege of his position will be given free airtime by over 250 radio stations and over 30 TV stations that operates in Uganda.
According to the 2014 Population Census figures showed that 55 percent of the population of 34.4 million Ugandans accessed information by radio, followed by the internet at 7.3 percent 7.2 percent through TV therefore you can smartly see that everyone has his portion.
Meanwhile, the duo’s addresses come at a time when the country is immersed into accusations of abductions, torture among other horrible acts meted against Ugandans mostly youth on the opposition wing something that has since left many insecure. Meanwhile, let’s wait to hear what our leaders have for us!
