One of the prime suspects in the murder of former Buyende District Police Commander Muhammad Kirumira has requested court to force Uganda prisons services to avail him medical treatment because of his deteriorating health conditions.
Abubaker Kalungi, while appearing before Wakiso Magistrates court informed court how he was tortured by the time security agencies arrested him but ever since that time in police, he has never received proper treatment even when he was tried and remanded to Kigo Prison. In a court session presided over by Wakiso Chief Magistrate Esther Nakadama Mubiru said that he has not received any treatment since he was remanded to Kigo Prison on October 4th.
“My lord, am In severe pain. All my body parts were hurt limbs so I really need treatment,” he said.
In her ruling, the chief Magistrate Esther Mubiru Nakadama ordered prison warders of Kigo Prison to give Kalungi proper medical attention or if not, they transfer him to Luzira Murchison Bay Hospital which is a bigger medical centre for prisoners of his nature.
Later her worship Nakadama adjourned the case to November 14th for further mention.
State is prosecuting Kalungi, a 47 year-old carpenter, and others still at large on the grounds that on September 8 at about 9pm, assassinated Kirumira and a female friend Resty Mbabazi. Kirumira was killed near his home in Bulenga, a Kampala suburb.
