Kampala Parents School (KPS), one of Uganda’s top-performing primary schools, recently held its prefects’ inauguration ceremony in a vibrant event presided over by the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi. In his address, Balaam applauded the school for its consistent academic excellence and for nurturing some of Uganda’s most prominent leaders—among them, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the current Chief of Defence Forces and son to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The minister recognized Gen. Muhoozi as one of the notable Old Boys of KPS who began shaping his leadership character at a very young age during his time at the school in the 1980s. “This esteemed institution has nurtured leaders like Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba,” Balaam noted, crediting the school’s culture of discipline, mentorship, and excellence.

Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, was also acknowledged in the minister’s speech as the head of the regulatory body under which the school operates. He further praised the school’s founder, Hon. Edward Kasole, for the vision that launched KPS in 1975 with just 170 pupils, 9 teachers, and 5 directors. Today, the school has grown to over 2,000 pupils and 130 teachers—a model of what Balaam called “steady progress.”

The school’s current owner and board chairman, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, was lauded for transforming the institution and maintaining its high standards over the years. “Thank you, Dr. Sudhir, for developing this school and keeping it among Uganda’s best,” Balaam said.

Kampala Parents School has maintained a reputation for academic excellence in every academic year, often ranking among the top in Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). For example, in the 2022 PLE results, over 100 pupils scored Division One, with many achieving aggregate 4, 5, or 6—testament to the school’s strong academic foundation.

As new prefects were sworn in, the ceremony served as both a celebration of youth leadership and a reflection on the powerful role KPS continues to play in shaping the nation’s future.
