Kenya Elections: Raila Odinga Meets Regional Power Broker Museveni

Kenya’s presidential candidate and African Union High Representative for infrastructure Raila Odinga on Thursday met with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at State House in Entebbe.

Raila is tussling with Dr William Ruto [Deputy President] in this hotly contested election.

Raila took to his social media accounts to say the two leaders walked down memory lane to discuss the history of Kenya and Uganda.

“The discussion was aimed at forging stronger ties moving into the future,” he said.

On there other hand, Museveni tweeted thus, ”I received Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, who paid me a courtesy call at State House Entebbe this evening. We discussed a wide range of issues concerning our two countries. I welcome him.”

Earlier Raila was at Juba, South Sudan for the commissioning of the 3.6km Freedom Bridge connecting East Africa.

As It Stands Between Ruto & Raila

According to a poll by Trends & Insights for Africa (TIFA) conducted on May 17, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga has shot seven points in under a month to poll 39 percent, after naming Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, a new poll has shown.

On the flip side, his main challenger, Deputy President William Ruto, who has named Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as running mate, has dropped to 35 percent from 39 percent three weeks ago.

The poll sampled 1,719 respondents from across the country, who were interviewed by phone in a poll TIFA said it funded on its own.

The respondents were picked from regions subdivided as Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift, and Western, and divided according to the population.

Dr Ruto’s current tally of 35 percent is a drop from the 38 percent in November 2021 and February 2022, as well as the 39 percent in April this year.

For Odinga, it is a steady rise from the 23 percent in November 2021, 27 percent in February 2022, and 32 percent in April, to his current 39 percent.
