By Spy Uganda

The political differences between Uganda and Rwanda are far from being settled because of the continued hostility between the two countries.

Spy Uganda has learnt that over the weekend, Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) soldiers shot dead two Ugandan businessmen over allegations that they were smuggling  goods into Rwanda.

Police in Kigezi district, which confirmed the murder, revealed that the incident , at around 8:00Pm in Nyagatarama district, Rwanda. The decease have since been identified as  Ayub Rwabishaga, resident of  Nyakabungo Cell, Kashekye parish, Kamwezi sub-county, Rukiga district, and John Bosco Tuhiirwe, 30, resident of the same area.

Elly Matte, the Kigezi Police Spokesperson said that “All the deceased were taken to Nyagatare district hospital by the Rwandan Forces.”

He added that “Relatives of the deceased should be patient as both Rwandan and Ugandan governments work out on the modalities of repatriating the bodies for proper internment.”

Matte however warned Ugandans, especially traders and businessmen operating along the Uganda-Rwanda border to exercise utmost caution during the course of their transactions, so as to avoid landing on trouble.

He also noted that the police are conducting investigations into the matter to establish what could prompted the Rwandan army to shoot Ugandan traders.

It should be noted that Rwanda closed its borders to Uganda early this year, accusing the Ugandan government of allegedly hobnobbing with elements that want to overthrow president Paul Kagame’s government, plus having hundreds of Rwandans in detention at various safe Houses in Uganda, who are being held incommunicado, without being produced in court to answer charges for which they were arrested.

However, ever since Rwanda closed its borders several have been shot dead trying to smuggle good in or out of Uganda.  Early this year, Rwandan forces shot two people dead at the Rwanda-Ugandan border. The incident occurred on Friday night  May 24, 2019 at 8:00pm at Hamisavu, trading centre, Kiruhura village, Kamwezi sub-county, Rukiga district.

Police publicist Fred Enanga identified the deceased as Peter Nyengye, Rwandan businessman and Ugandan, Alex Nyesiga.

Enanga, said that Nyengye attempted to cross to Rwanda on motorcycle loaded with merchandize before citing the armed Rwandan security guard and attempted to turn back.

“Two armed Rwandan soldiers chased Nyengye to a distance of about 80 metres into Ugandan territory at Hamisavu trading centre and when he resisted arrest, he was shot on the head and killed instantly,“ Enanga said.

However, investigations into the matter have since hit a dead end after Rwandan forces denied shooting the two dead.
