Sheema: The police in Kabwohe Municipality, Sheema District, on Saturday arrested a 45-year-old man, who is a taxi driver,over allegations of defiling and impregnating a primary five pupil during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lock down.
Boaz Mucunguzi, a resident of Kisiizi cell, Shuuku town council, in Sheema District, was picked by cops from his home as he tried to escape to Kampala.
It is alleged that Mucunguzi defiled the toddler (names withheld on police request) and threatened to harm her if she told anyone about it.
Through SP Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, ASP Steven Niragire, the OC station Sheema Central Police station, told our reporter that after arresting Mucunguzi, they took him together with the girl for medical check-up, and found out that the girl was one month pregnant, although fortunately, HIV negative.
Niragire however said that Mucunguzi refuted the allegations, saying that the girl’s parents are being malicious to him and that they are trying to tarnish his reputation.
ASP Niragire told this website that Mucunguzi will be arraigned in court soon to answer charges of defilement Vide case file number SD REF 02/31/07/2020 when investigations into the matter are completed.
When our reporter talked to the defiled pupil, she said that Mucunguzi, who is their immediate neighbour, first asked for permission from her mother to allow him send her to his home, from where he later followed her and defiled her.
“He came home during day time, and told mother that he wanted to send me to his home to help him arrange his dining room, saying he was expecting visitors.
My mother first refused but he kept pleading until she agreed that I could go to his home in company of my brother. When we reached there, he told us to help him arrange the clothes in his bedroom. After a while, he went outside,called my brother and sent him somewhere to bring for him something,” the victim said.
She added that; “When my brother had gone, he came where I was, forcefully pulled down my knickers and defiled me. My brother returned when the man was still on me but after hearing him, he got off me. He told me that if I tell my parents, he would kill them and take me to Kampala to kill me too”.
The girl further explained that after about two weeks, Mucunguzi told her that he wanted to take her to Kampala where he works from, such that she could be his wife and that he would start up a big business for her and that if she refused, he would use other means to marry her.
