Thanks For Hosting Us: Huawei To Gift Uganda A World Class ICT Academy

Kampala: Huawei Uganda yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kampala International University (KIU) on behalf of Uganda as a country, to create an ICT academy that will see hundreds of Ugandans empowered with a couple of ICT skills.

The Huawei ICT Academy is Huawei’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative that covers the entire Huawei ICT talent development process, from course development, trainer empowerment, environment setup laboratory, talent certification, competition and employment.

Upon signing the MoU, Mr. Gao Jean, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Uganda, said, “The ICT Talent Development Program will train KIU staff and students. Jean added that staff and students will be certified after the training.

The university will allow professors to organize the Academy of ICT courses after being certified in order to train the students. Classes at the academy will combine both theory and practice as some students have little project experience. Huawei certification will test the learning path of students and improve ICT development among KIU students.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Finance and Administration, Assoc. Professor Janice Busingye, on behalf of Vice Chancellor Dr Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, applauded Huawei for its good offer. “KIU is happy to partner with Huawei. We have all the infrastructure in place for the ICT Academy. This is the start of many collaborations, ”she said.

In her address, Ms. Fouziya Mukyala Sooma, Public Relations Manager of Huawei Uganda, thanked Professor Busingye for his cooperation. “We look forward to increased cooperation with KIU,” Sooma said.

During this time, were present at the signing of the memorandum of understanding; Dr Margaret Kareyo, Dean of the KIU School of Mathematics and Computer Science,

Mr. Wilbert Ayebazibwe; Department of Quality Assurance, and Mr. Obinna Osigwe; Head of Marketing and Public Relations at KIU.

Huawei ICT Academy of Uganda now includes 13 universities in Uganda and has already certified hundreds of students in 2021. Huawei has not yet expanded to private universities, so still focusing on public universities.
