Rubanda: Patience Kyomuhendo, 20, a resident of Kiruruma village, Kacerere parish, Bufundi Sub County, Rubanda district is under arrest for allegedly cutting off her 7-months old son’s private parts, after being neglected by her husband.
The victim’s grandmother Ester Mparushimana,65, said that “Kyomuhendo allegedly cut off her son Ivan Ahereza’s private parts on Thursday 27 June, 2019 in the morning, while at her home in Kiruruma village.” Mparushimana added that “I heard the boy crying helplessly for a long time, which prompted me to go and check what the matter was.” Mparushimana said that to her dismay, she found the victim bleeding and abandoned.
“I was forced to raise an alarm which attracted locals and within that time, I saw Kyomuhendo attempting to commit suicide by hanging herself. But when I rushed to where she was and called her, she angrily replied to me that she wanted to die because of being neglected by her husband.” According to Kyomuhendo, her husband, whom she declined to reveal, has spent over one and a half years without returning home from Kampala where he works as a casual laborer. He has never sent her any money buy food or cater for the baby’s medical bills. Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for Kigezi region said that the child was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral hospital where he is admitted. Maate also said that Kyomuhendo is detained at Rubanda police station as investigations continue vide file number SD 19/27/06/19. He condemned the act, wondering why Kyomuhendo decided to punish an innocent child in such a manner because of her problems with the husband.
